SPM hosts US & Canadian Fellows on BOA visit

19 March 2024

It was a privilege to receive distinguished ‘Fellows’ from the United States and Canada as part of their tour of the UK and Europe. As invited guests of the British Orthopaedic Association (BOA) and arranged by the secretary of the BOA, David Stanley, who is himself a shoulder specialist, and one of Sheffield’s very own leading orthopaedic surgeons, the fellows had a complete tour of the SPM facilities.

Their time with us began with an in depth look at the manufacturing facility, and how we take the products of our OEM clients from concept to completion using our own design and manufacturing expertise. It was a really exciting time as we realised that these fellows, experts in their own right, recognised the instrument types they use in their own workplace.

The following image shows the surgeon’s gathered after a presentation given by SPM’s CEO Brian Reece. The ‘S’ in the logo comes from the foremost letter of ‘Sheffield City Region’ (SCR) which is a partnership for businesses from Sheffield. It helps to promote a city famous woldwide for its advanced engineering capabilities, and the historic discovery and development of stainless steel (100 years ago in 2013).

Also with us on the day, was Neil Garner (pictured on left), chairman of the SCR LEP Healthcare Technology Sector Group. Neil is former VP of Symmetry Medical Europe, and is now a consultant in Regulatory & Business Development. His services have assisted SPM in its recent regulatory and business development.
